Lots of folks are wondering if November 3rd was a fluke or not. We don’t know, no one here can answer that because we aren’t active in that organization. We prefer to sit on the sidelines and watch the show.

Fluke or not the congratulations go to Bill Fey who won leadership of the organization after a very bitter battle with the former party chair Loran Oglesby.

The organization gained nine seats at the municipal level, won an Assembly seat (and it was won in Gloucester County because Camden County came up way short on their end) and Chris Christie beat Corzine in the blue county.

At least some of the credit has to go to the new leadership at the county level. The question now becomes can they keep it up? Of course they have Steve Sweeney to contend with but as this blog mentioned earlier Sweeney is going to be busy with the Senate presidency so the GOP may be able to sneak him again.

With big races in Washington and Monroe townships next year. It’s possible the Gloucester County GOP might now be a contender.

Others call it typical Rick DeMichele.

This is a guy who took a Republican Party that might not have won many elections but at least competed and turned it into even less than it was. So back in the spring when tickets were being announced DeMichele wouldn't tell anyone who his Assembly candidate in the 4th district was going to be.

He did make sure to repeatedly tell everyone that it was a game changer. When the announcement finally came it was none other than Eugene Lawrence, a former councilman from Gloucester Township who switched to Republican to run. DeMichele picked a guy who doesn't even own property and knows nothing about paying property taxes who also happens to be disliked by people in his own town and throughout the district.

Way to go Rick DeMichele. If you had actually gone out and recruited a Republican the GOP would have won two seats, instead your loser candidate came in dead last and was a major drag on Gloucester County's candidate, Domenick DiCicco.

The BIG show is over. Chris Christie is no longer candidate Christie, he is Governor-Elect Christie.

Now there’s another race, it started during the brutal gubernatorial slug fest and is no longer the under card.

It’s Sweeney versus Codey for Senate President and Sweeney has been hitting hard. Insiders tell us it looks like Sweeney will win the post.

Great, just what we need, a dual office holding Democrat as Senate President. But we have to ask is Steve Sweeney as Senate President such a bad thing?

Love him or hate him he will fight for South Jersey. After all he did take Corzine on over the sales tax increase. Sure he lost but he took the fight to him. He fought the unions and won. That was a tough thing for a union leader to do.

We may not always agree with his politics but Sweeney as the Senate President might not be such a bad thing plus it’ll have other benefits.

As Senate President Sweeney will be busy doing things and working deals all over the state. He will not be able to pay the close attention to Gloucester County politics that he has in years past. Look at this past election, he was busy lining up votes for his bid for the Senate Presidency and the Gloucester County GOP snuck up on him gaining seats in 9 municipalities, a seat in the Assembly, a win for Christie and even though he lost Bob Villare ran very well in Gloucester County out pacing Celeste Riley. Chris Del Borello nearly pulled of an upset win in the Freeholder race.

So think long and hard before you say no to a Sweeney Senate Presidency.

We know we haven’t posted in a while and we know it’s tough to get readers for a new blog that doesn’t post frequently but we do expect that to change. In our defense there are only two of us to watch everything that happens in politics off exits 1, 2 and 3 of the Turnpike and work our jobs at the same time. We are going to try to start posting on a more regular basis.

Since our last post a lot has happened in South Jersey politics as well as statewide politics. Naturally everyone is focused on the gubernatorial race and certainly the lines have been drawn in the sand. We support Chris Christie in that race and hope he manages to pull off the victory on November 3rd.

Aside from that there are some other races off exits 1, 2 and 3 of the Turnpike and now that the papers are starting to roll out there endorsements it’s time for us to start taking a look at these races.

The Assembly contests are in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th districts and all appear to be fairly competitive. Mike Donohue and John McCann are taking on Nelson Albano and Matt Milam in the 1st. Experts say this one is too close to call - at least that’s what the Vineland Daily Journal said.

In the 3rd district where Republicans had originally pinned their hopes on two other candidates it appears we could have an interesting Election Day if voters pay attention to endorsements. The Vineland Daily Journal, Gloucester County Times and Courier-Post have all endorsed a split ticket of Democrat John Burzichelli and Republican Bob Villare.

And in the 4th the Courier-Post has endorsed a split ticket of Democrat Paul Moriarty and Republican Domenick DiCicco.

Will voters listen in the 3rd and 4th and send one Democrat and one Republican to Trenton?

This could be interesting and now we will see how important endorsements are to the voters of South Jersey.

"Don Stapley and Lou Magazzu worked together on a NACo task force and both have transferred money from a political account to a NACo account.
Citizens, at least in the blogosphere, have asked how Magazzu is paying the super lawyer who has represented such fine outstanding citizens such as disgraced former Hoboken mayor Peter Cammarano and prevented Jon Corzine’s emails from being released to the public.

We have an answer to the question of who is paying the tab. Every man, woman and child in Cumberland County has already coughed up $1.18 each to Mr. Genova.

We arrived at that answer by taking a look at 1099 forms that are posted on Magazzu Watch and Save Jersey showing how much Genova’s law firm was paid by Cumberland County in 2007 and 2008. The total? A whopping $172,746 which given the 2000 census figures for Cumberland County means this man cost every man, woman and child $1.18 a piece for his services.

He’s called out incumbent freeholders, Joe Chila and Bob Damminger for “marching in lock-step with the freeholder-director" and called them out for their “strategy of remaining silent.”

It seems to us that this young, aggressive candidate called Damminger and Chila puppets of state Senator/Freeholder Director Steve Sweeney.

We agree. Keep telling the voters the truth Del Borrello!

Lou Magazzu is getting the crap kicked out of him over NACo-Gate. Watching the news and the blogs it looks like he just can’t get out from under it.

He’s tried to spin his was out of it time and time again with no success.

So, rather than answer all the questions that have come over NACo-Gate, he has resorted to attacking women. First he tried to go after Carol Kernan, a Cumberland County attorney he tried to say was raising money for Republicans to get consideration for a judgeship. She put him in his place.

The latest attack has been on Cumberland County Clerk Gloria Noto. Mrs. Noto does a great job as county clerk, she’s even returned between 5% and 20% of her operating budget to Cumberland County every year since 2000, saving the taxpayers over $150,000 dollars.

But, no matter how good a job Mrs. Noto does, Magazzu insists on using his cronies to go after her. Now he’s trying to force her to hold extended hours so he can flood the office with his votes. It’s all about saving his political ass. Don’t believe any of what you are reading in the papers.

Lou Magazzu please stop trying to beat up on women. One already confronted you and you ran away from her like a little girl. Why don’t you just resign?

Lou Magazzu is in some deep poop!

At least that's the word on the street and not just off exits 1, 2 and 3. Political insiders as far north as exit 16E are talking about this one. It's been in all three daily papers in Cumberland County and on any blog worth the monthly hosting fee.

Magazzu has tried everything he can to get out from under this one. He's tried to pick on Cumberland County Clerk Gloria Noto, she didn't bite. He lashed out at Cumberland County GOP chairman Bob Greco telling the Press of Atlantic City that "Bob Greco lives in the gutter." Magazzu didn't even get away with that one. Greco's wife got mad about that and wrote a letter to the Vineland Daily Journal.

Magazzu's been on the ropes since August when he tried to accuse to Republican attorneys of raising money for the Party in exchange for consideration for a judgeship. Obviously Magazzu lied about that because word on the street, from both Democrats and Republicans, is that after that lie appeared in the paper Carol Kernan marched into Cumberland County Democratic Headquarters and confronted Magazzu who backed right down.

Yes, you read that right. Big, bad Lou Magazzu backed down from a woman. Democrats call him Louise behind his back now, or at least that's what one told us.

Fast forward to last week and we learned in the papers that Magazzu now has Angelo Genova talking for him. What the guy who is arguably the best election lawyer in the State of New Jersey is doing in Cumberland County is anybody's guess. Our guess is that for Magazzu to bring in someone like Genova can mean only one thing; Lou Magazzu is in some very deep poop.

bjv4xikzqf

Welcome to our blog. We're going to take our chance at blogging about South Jersey politics. Others have tried and for whatever reason those blogs didn't last. Fortunately for us it looks like there will be plenty to blog about given recent news. But before we talk about that, the authors of this blog are Republicans, so you can expect to see us point out every little thing the Democrats do wrong. We may on occasion go after a Republican if he or she does something really stupid. Eventually we will invite a Democrat or two to join us for balance if the mood hits us.

The authors of this blog will remain anonymous. Not because we are hiding from our words but because there are some politicians and power brokers who will do what they can to silence those who speak out against them. Being anonymous prevents them from silencing us.

We thought, given the recent news about Lou Magazzu and NACo-Gate along with the very public campaign for state Senate President, this would be a great time to start a blog about South Jersey politics.

We have not started this blog to compete with any other blog. We started it because South Jersey politics is under served in the blogosphere. Politickernj.com misses a lot of items that are newsworthy to those of us who watch South Jersey politics. Save Jersey is a great blog but they cover the whole state and sometimes national stuff. Magazzu Watch is a blog that does an excellent job of covering the soon-to-be-investigated Lou Magazzu but there is more to South Jersey politics than Cumberland County. Our goal is to watch all of South Jersey, Camden Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland, Atlantic and Cape May Counties.

We think it's going to be fun. Please check back soon for new entries.
